Maths For Fun in First Class.

A really big Thank You to our Maths-For-Fun parents Orlagh and Kathleen.

They have been coming into Maths stations in the two First classes for the past six weeks and playing some fun maths games with the children.

We have played card games, dice games, Dominoes and Tangrams.

There is always great excitement when they come into the class. We know there is going to be some great Maths but we also know there’s going to be FUN!

Thank you to teacher Kerry for organising it all!

Sadly, our Maths Stations are now finished in First Class until the new year when we will start them again.

Watch out Second class, Maths and Fun are on their way to you very soon 🙂

Parents: there is a wealth of ideas and tips available for you on how to help your child with their maths at home. Check out the NCCA for tip sheets and short video clips on simple activities and games you can do to help your child at home.

Maths Trail

Last week Ann Marie’s went on a maths trail with Laura toexplore patterns in our school playground. We worked in groups at different stations. In station 1 we had to arrange our school bags in a number sequence for the other children to work out.

Station 2 was a hopscotch activity. Each person jumped a different pattern and the rest of the group had to identify the rule.

We created Human Patterns at station 3 where we lined up in different positions and challenged the rest of the class to extend our pattern.

In station 4 we searched for different patterns in the school yard. We found patterns in the railings, on the windows of the school, in the drains and man-hole, on the bricks surrounding the school and on the designs in the soft play area. It certainly was one of our more fun maths lessons!!
