Bereavement of Brian Ruane

The school are saddened to announce the bereavement, following a sustained illness of Brian Ruane.  Brian gave  twelve years of voluntary service to the governance of the school as a current  Board of  Management  member and  former Chairperson.  Brian contributed hugely to the development of the inclusive and rights-based function and performance of this  school, specifically,  and to the Educate Together movement nationally.

He will be sorely missed in our school and our symapathies go to his wife Beth (teacher in the school), daughter Saorla, colleagues, friends and children. We will remember him formally at our Assemblies, this Monday ( Jan 8th), and look forward to doing a proper remembrance  for his family in the school in due course.

  1. Deepest sympathy to Beth, Saorla and all Brian’s family. Thinking also of all the teachers and staff at BETNS. Brian has left such a huge legacy to the world of education and we were privileged to have him as a friend.

  2. On behalf of the Board of Directors, National Staff and entire membership of Educate Together, I’d like to express our deep sadness at this news. Brian was an outstanding supporter of Educate Together and of Human Rights education in Ireland. His contribution will be greatly missed. Our deepest sympathy to Beth, Saorla and all his family and to the entire Balbriggan Educate Together community.

  3. I went to St. Josephs School in Cork with Brian. I am shocked.

He was a lovely, gentle and warm soul – like his father, Mick, before him – who I also knew well.

Godspeed Brian. It was lovely growing up with you. Never a complaint – just love.
