Hello,
This year, BETNS are launching a campaign to achieve an Active School Flag for our school.
What is an Active School Flag, I hear you ask? An Active School Flag (ASF) is awarded to schools who achieve a physically active and physically educated school community.
As you will be aware, the children in BETNS participate in a fantastic range of sporting activities and physical education – be that through PE, after school clubs, representative school teams, Get Active Week and Wake and Shake, among other things. We hope to achieve the ASF in recognition of the brilliant work done by all the adults and children who make this school such a physically active and physically educated school.
There is a long checklist of requirements that a school must meet in order to achieve an ASF, but the great news is that we already meet many of these requirements. This means we are well on the way to achieving a flag for our school. However, there is still work to be done.
The first step is to raise awareness of our campaign. We have set up an Active School Flag blog on the school website, so please check out the blog for information and the latest news about how the campaign is going. Can I ask everyone who reads this post to tell just one other person about our campaign (or more than one if you wish!!)? This will help spread the word very quickly!
Some teachers in the school have formed an Active School Team to help lead this campaign. But we will require the help and support of the whole school community: teachers, children, parents, principal! Also, we will be asking some children to join the Active School Team to help come up with some ideas for the campaign, to help make decisions and to run some events throughout the year. Your teachers will speak to you about this very soon!
If you would like to read more information on the ASF, please visit their website: http://www.activeschoolflag.ie/
Stay tuned!
The Active School Team.
Sounds great! Can’t wait to get stuck into it! 🙂
