Teachers’ End-of-Year Treats

Every year, the Parents Association likes to treat the staff in the school to a very special break to show our appreciation for all their hard work throughout the year.  In particular, for their great volunteerism in giving their free time so that our children can enjoy so many wonderful activities.

It’s not just about the lovely treats, though. We always like to leave a few words of thanks as well.

Thanks to all the wonderful staff at Balbriggan ETNS for all their hard work and creativity.

The PA’s Condolences to Merryn’s Family

The Parents Association would like to send its deepest condolences to the family of Merryn Lacy at this desperately sad time.  Merryn’s parents, Jenny and Michael, shared their lives with us over the last few years and it was inspiring and humbling to read their journey since Merryn was diagnosed.

As has been the case since Merryn’s diagnosis, great hardship brings out great kindness in the families in the school. So many parents have been in touch with individual Parents Association members to enquire about sending flowers.  The request from Jenny and Michael is for family flowers only and so we will respect that.  We will make a contribution, on behalf of the parents in the school, to a memorial at a later date.  In the meantime, we extend our deepest sympathies Jenny, Michael, Cora, their families, her friends in the school,  her community in Donabate and all those who will miss all that she brought to the world in her short life.

Food Fair Tomorrow!

One of the highlights of our year is coming up – our International Food Fair.  Parents bring along a favourite dish from their home and we all get to share in the culinary delights on offer.  So come along after morning drop-off and bring a dish your family enjoys – sweet, savoury, spicey, whatever they like.  All washed down with a cuppa and, of course, the usual Parents Association chat.

Check out some highlights from previous years!

Don’t go to too much trouble – only bring the quantity you would make for your family!

First Aid – A Course for Parents

A two-part paediatric first aid course will be held in the school on Wednesday April 20th at 6pm to 9pm and on Monday April 25th at 6pm to 9pm.

The course will teach important life saving techniques that can be used on babies and children.

Participants will attend on both evenings to complete the course.

Because the Parents Association is partly subsiding the cost, the fee is reduced to €35 for the full course.

Places are limited and will be filled on a first come, first served, basis. Payment must be made in advance. You can pay €35 in the school lobby on Friday April 15th at 8.40am, 1.20pm or 2.20pm.

International Food Fair – April 29th

Every year, the Parents Association organises an International Food Fair, which celebrates the hospitality in our homes.  Families bring a favourite dish enjoyed in their home and everyone gets to sample dishes from around the world.  Sweet, savoury, spicey – you name it! It’s also a chance for parents to sit and chat, which is always important.

This is what our 2014 Food Fair looked like.  That year, it took place during Feile na Gaeilge, so it was a real celebration of modern Irish families.

And in 2015, in went from strength to strength! Here are some lovely photos taken by Elvina.

The Food Fair will take place from morning drop-off on April 29th until around 11am.  Bring a favourite dish that you families enjoys.  You don’t have to bring loads – just the amount you would make in your own home.
